Building trust with your audience is paramount in affiliate marketing, and the quickest way to lose trust is to recommend products either you haven’t used before or that aren’t a good fit for your audience. Also make sure you never tell anyone to directly buy a product, you are simply recommending the product. The more helpful you are and the more you make quality recommendations, the more likely your web visitors will come back for your expertise.

Use Google Trends to look at trending stories in your niche, after you find the trending articles take a look at the headlines that are trending. Study the headlines of trending articles and before you write your content this will give you an idea of what people are interested in. (Don’t steal headlines, but use them as a brainstorming tool for great content)

The first step in understanding taxes for affiliate marketers is to understand how affiliate marketers are paid, and how that differs from the way most Americans are paid.  As an affiliate marketer, you are paid as what is known as a “1099 Contractor” for tax purposes.  This differs than say, a cashier at a grocery store, who is most likely treated as a “W-2 Employee”.  The key difference here is that contractors do not have any taxes withheld from their income by their employer (in this case, the affiliate network who writes your check), whereas the W-2 employee at a grocery store has the employee portion of payroll taxes withheld (Medicare and Social Security taxes, which amount to 7.65%), and another portion withheld for estimated federal and state income taxes, respectively.  Although it may seem favorable that 1099 Contractors don’t have these taxes withheld from their checks, they still inevitably do owe taxes on their earnings.  They are required to pay both the employer and employee portions of the Medicare and Social Security taxes in the form of a 15.3% “Self Employment Tax” and are required, in some cases, to make estimated tax payments to the IRS for their federal and state income taxes.  Paying the self employment tax and estimated taxes to the IRS is the most common misconception or oversight amongst affiliate marketers, and often leads to year end surprises.  To add an additional wrinkle, there is a common misunderstanding with respect to how taxes work for affiliate marketers operating as a sole proprietorship, LLC, or C-Corporation– which we will discuss next.

Optimize Your Website for Local Search – If your law practice only handles cases in Albuquerque, New Mexico, then it doesn’t do much good to get it seen by consumers searching for legal consultations in Crawford County, New Hampshire. Make sure your business website includes local information, like a phone number, address, and geo-targeted keywords so that local consumers call you.
It’s important to know where your traffic is coming from and the demographics of your audience. This will allow you to customize your messaging so that you can provide the best affiliate product recommendations. You shouldn’t just focus on the vertical you’re in, but on the traffic sources and audience that’s visiting your site. Traffic sources may include organic, paid, social media, referral, display, email, or direct traffic. You can view traffic source data in Google Analytics to view things such as time on page, bounce rate, geo location, age, gender, time of day, devices (mobile vs. desktop), and more so that you can focus your effort on the highest converting traffic. This analytics data is crucial to making informed decisions, increasing your conversion rates, and making more affiliate sales.

I made some money with it for sure, I was making $3000 to $4000 per month promoting anti-wrinkle offer, on average working 2-3 hours per day to maintain ads, monitor performance, do other tweaks with my accounts.
